The Wobbly Whale Public House, which is located in the old Kings Head British Pub in St. Augustine held its grand opening yesterday and we decided to swing by to give it a proper review. We knew that with an opening time of noon that we better get there early to beat the crowds as locals have been anticipating the grand opening for some time now.
Mena and I loaded up Oliver and Enzo and drove to The Wobbly Whale to meet up with Tio Mike and Tia Debbie. Luckily when we arrived at around 11:45 a.m. they had already opened the doors so we were able to snag a big table for all of us. Let me tell you that this was a great move as the pub filled up super quick.
As you walk into the entrance you are greeted by a few picnic tables outside just in case you can’t find a spot inside the pub – this helped a ton during their grand opening as it kept the inside from getting over-crowded.
Once we entered and got our table, we had a look around and having travelled to Europe a few times now, it does give off pub vibes. I think the only thing I would do and this is just me is to black out or at least put a dark tint on all the windows to give it a more dim, pub-esque atmosphere inside.
Aesthetics aside, the service was great despite a few hiccups with paying the bill but that is expected on their first day open to the public. Now let’s take a look at the beer on tap and the food options available at The Wobbly Whale Public House in St. Augustine, Florida.
The Wobbly Whale Beer
I must admit that the tap selection at The Wobbly Whale was impressive. If you are looking for a good European style beer such as Delirium Tremens, Guinness, Krombacher or the heavy hitting Belgian beers from St. Bernardus or Chimay then The Wobbly Whale is your spot. Don’t get me wrong I love a good hazy but it’s nice to go hang out at a pub and sip on some of the old world stuff while watching a good match of football (soccer).
Guinness
- Type: Irish Stout
- ABV: 4.2%
For their grand opening visit I decided to go with a traditional Guinness and it was absolutely delicious – A+ for having their pour dialed in on opening day!

The Wobbly Whale Food
We can’t finish our review without talking about the food that The Wobbly Whale offers. They had a great menu available which you can see below but we had to go with the classic Fish & Chips.
Classic Fish & Chips
I was afraid that these would be super greasy and just not that great being that it was their grand opening but this was absolutely incredible and reason enough to go back to The Wobbly Whale to eat again. Flaky white fish, excellent batter that was not greasy at all and chips that were as hot as lava but so damn good that it was worth burning your mouth to keep eating.

Mena and I agree that this was some of the best fish and chips that we’ve had and can’t wait to go back and get it again while trying out the other food that they offer.
For a grand opening, The Wobbly Whale Public House knocked it out of the park with their beer and food offerings, overall atmosphere and service. The payment system needs to be tweaked a little as there were a few hiccups when trying to pay our bill on the mobile phone our waitress had. That really is the only thing we have to nitpick at but it’s definitely not going to keep us from going back again – we just found our new local pub to go to with the kids on the weekend!

The Review
The Wobbly Whale
Mena and I packed up both of our boys and decided to meet Mike and Deborah at the grand opening of The Wobbly Whale, a new public house (pub), in St. Augustine, Florida. Despite a few hiccups for their grand opening, we had a great time and enjoyed the cold beer and delicious food. I highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area and make sure you get the fish and chips because they were really good!
