King Maker Brewing is located west of downtown Jacksonville and we accidentally passed it on our way to review another brewery on the Jax Ale Trail. King Maker was on our list but we did not know exactly where it was so it was a happy accident that we drove right by it and made a u-turn to stop in and check them out.

Upon walking up to the brewery we noticed a HUGE outdoor beer garden and then what can only be described as a massive open warehouse which offered a ton of seating – needless to say, there is a ton of room at this brewery when you include the outdoor beer garden, warehouse and taproom.

Once inside, the taproom is a lot bigger than it looks as it wraps around and there is another section right after you pass the bar. Now that we have the layout covered, let’s get into what you are all here for – THE BEER!

King Maker Brewing Beer

During our visit, King Maker had 15 beers on tap which is quite impressive. They had IPAs, stouts, lagers, sours and more so there is surely something you will enjoy no matter what style of beer you are into.

While on our Jax Ale Trail quest we bought flights of beer wherever they were available so that is what we went with. I prefer IPAs so we chose 3 of those and then a sour for our flight.

Below you will find each of the beers we purchased in our flight and my personal review of each one:

Weathercaster

Weathercaster - King Maker Brewing

  • Type: Hazy IPA
  • ABV: 7%

Not the traditional orange juice looking “hazy” IPA I am used to getting at Civil Society but a great beer nonetheless.

Surfcaster

  • Type: West Coast IPA
  • ABV: 7.0%

I’ve said it once and I will say it again, I am a sucker for a good West Coast IPA and this hit the spot for me – definitely my favorite of the beer flight.

Juice Double

  • Type: Hazy Double IPA
  • ABV: 8.5%

I preferred the weathercaster hazy but this was by no means a bad beer and I’d definitely have it again when visiting King Maker.

Sweet Caroline

  • Type: Sour
  • ABV: 5.0%

I am pretty sure this is just a sour base meaning I don’t think it was conditioned on anything and both Mena and I actually enjoyed this as it was quite refreshing.

King Maker Brewing Food

Mena and I were starving because this was our third stop of the day on our mission to fully complete the Jax Ale Trail and thankfully King Maker Brewing has a food truck outside. They surprisingly have a well-rounded menu for a brewery but we went with the Cheddar Burger because after a long day of drinking nothing sounds better than a nice, juicy burger.

  • Description: Ground Chuck, Cheddar Cheese, and Comeback Sauce – Served on Brioche

Maybe it was because we were three breweries into our day but let me tell you, this burger hit the spot. Mena and I felt completely recharged after devouring it and I highly recommend you give it a shot if you go to King Maker.

All in all, King Maker Brewing is a solid choice if you are looking for some refreshing beer, good food, and a relaxing atmosphere. The service was great and the overall vibes of the taproom laid back and lowkey.
